Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Announced, Starters Revealed

February 28, 2022

The Pokémon Company has announced that the newest games in the Pokémon series, Scarlet and Violet, will be coming to Switch in late 2022. And we’ve got all the details you need to know about these new games!

The announcement came via the Pokémon Presents livestream yesterday. The end of the stream gave us our first look at the new games as well as info about what players can expect to see.

First of all, we got our first look at the new starter Pokémon. All of them hail from a new region that has not yet been named. The starters are as follows: Fuecoco (a fire crocodile), Sprigatito (a grass cat), and Quaxly (a water duckling).

While we don’t know the name of the new region (honestly, it looks a lot like Spain), the trailer mentions it will have both a large variety of environments and a variety of towns. Interestingly, these towns don’t seem to have borders, so players may be able to seamlessly transition between areas. And you can expect to see Pokémon wandering around both inside and outside of towns.

Here is the official description of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet:

Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.

Are you excited to play Scarlet and Violet, and do you think they’ll be able to top the recent Pokémon Legends: Arceus? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
