Naughty Dog Working on The Last Of Us Remake for PS5

April 9, 2021

A new report by Bloomberg has revealed Naughty Dog is working on a remake of The Last of Us.

The project originally began three year ago at Sony’s Visual Arts Service Group, with studio founder Michael Mumbauer recruiting a team of around 30 people. However, Sony later shifted the development of the PlayStation 5 remake to Naughty Dog. Mumbauer has since left Visual Arts Service Group along with several other high-profile developers.

The remake has stunned many in the industry, especially considering that a PS4 version of the game was released in 2014. This suggests the remake will only be able to slightly improve the look and performance of a game that still holds up pretty well today.

The same report also indicates that Sony Bend had pitched a sequel to Days Gone but that Sony refused to greenlight the project. Instead, it put the developer in charge of developing a new Uncharted game and assisting Naughty Dog with a multiplayer release.

However, several influential members of the Sony Bend team spoke out about working on the Uncharted series, eventually leading to the studio being allowed to work on its own idea for a new game.
